Omega-three supplements are safe for any man or woman and even teenagers can safely benefit from these supplements.

Fish Oil for Allergy

Almost one-third of the world's population deals with seasonal allergies. Ragweed, pine pollen, grass, dust, animal dander, and poplar pollen can have thousands of people grabbing for Kleenex throughout the spring, summer, and fall every single day. While there are many over-the-counter or prescription remedies on the market, often it is the natural remedies that work best at overcoming allergies for a long-term basis.

Common allergy symptoms include sneezing, coughing, post-nasal drip, congestion, itchy/watery eyes, headaches, and sometimes even sinus pain. For many, these symptoms can feel like a more intense round of the cold, only it doesn't go away until the pollen has been eliminated and that can be tough. There are many pollens out there that can cause allergies, including:

New Studies

Omega 3 fatty acids are currently being studied to see how beneficial they are at stopping allergies to many common plants or items. Obviously, those with allergies to seafood will have to forgo plans of using Omega 3 fatty acids for allergy help because Omega 3 capsules usually contain fish oil. Walnuts and flax seed are also high in Omega 3, but their Omega 3 source is not as readily digested.

Fish Oil Can Help Against Allergies

Omega 3 fatty acids have been studied and proven effective as an anti-inflammatory agent. They also work well as antibacterial agents. With a common allergy, most of the symptoms are caused by the spiky edges of one microscopic particle of pollen irritating the sinuses causing the sneezing and watery eyes. As this creates more mucus, the mucus works its way through the sinuses causing congestion, itchy eyes, and throat problems from the post-nasal drip. Part of the problem is that the pollen particle causes inflammation because it does have rough, scratchy edges that may not be visible to the naked eye, but they are there.

By taking regular supplements of Omega 3 essential fatty acids, a person can help his or her body fight off the inflammation that causes many of the problems. In fact, one study performed recently took a large group of patients with current allergy symptoms. Close to half of those in the study showed immediate improvements after taking fish oil supplements for a day. Another study took a panel of infants whose mother had taken fish oil supplements regularly during pregnancy and while breast feeding. These infants were subjected to a quick skin allergy test to see if they had any allergies to plants or dust. Most of the infants showed no signs of allergies at all.

Fish oil pills are not harmful, unless you have seafood allergies and therefore should know better than to take fish oil supplements anyway. With so many studies proving the effectiveness of Omega 3 essential fatty acid supplements for a number of diseases and conditions, there truly is little reason for adults to avoid taking them regularly. Providing you have checked to ensure the fish oil brand filters out mercury and other contaminants (check the label on the fish oil bottle), fish oil supplements are safe and effective.
